Effective Sunday, August 10, 2025, Marin Transit will be making schedule changes to the following routes: 17, 23, 29, 57, 61, 68, 613, 619, and 625. These changes will help meet the needs of various communities around Marin County and are being made in response to both rider feedback and data that has been collected. 

Overview of Schedule Changes:

Route 17: Weekday minor schedule adjustments to the 7:56am and 1:57pm northbound trips. (schedule eff. 8/10/25)

Route 23: Weekday removal of one westbound trip and 2:18pm and the addition of an eastbound trip at 9:52pm. (schedule eff. 8/10/25)

Route 29: Weekday minor schedule adjustments. (schedule eff. 8/10/25)

Route 57: Weekday minor schedule adjustments and a change to the names and timepoint location of the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center stops. (schedule eff. 8/10/25)

All Aboard to the County Fair!

The Fairgrounds are accessible via the Route 35, the Route 49, and the SMART Civic Center station. Route 71 as well as Route 233 provide service to nearby stops.

Free Fare for the Fair!

Why fight with traffic and parking? Marin Transit provides regular service through the Marin Civic Center and the Marin County Fairgrounds!

Marin Transit is pleased to provide free fare for all regular service during the Marin County Fair. Passengers can ride for free any time between July 2 and July 6, 2025. 

This promotion is not available on Marin Access or demand response services.

In July 2025, Marin Transit will host two community open houses in partnership with the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District. 

Come share your thoughts on transit service in your community, and learn more about new initiatives and service changes:

• Progress on Marin Transit's proposed new bus maintenance facility
• Updates to Marin Access programs

Marin Transit is the Official Transportation Sponsor of this year's Mill Valley Music Festival on May 10th and 11th. All festival ticket holders can ride for free to and from the festival with proof of a ticket or a wristband.

Bay Area transit agencies rode a wave of increasing ridership in the first three months of the year that was felt across the region. Many agencies posted double digit gains in ridership compared with the same period last year. Caltrain led the charge with a 50% ridership increase over the first three months of 2025 fueled largely by the agency’s switch to an all-electric service. The nine agencies reporting gains handled a combined total of 3.24 million more trips from January through March compared with the same period in 2024.

Caltrain was not alone in seeing a major ridership increase during the first three months of the year:

• Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) saw a ridership bump of 38%. That increase means SMART’s ridership averaged 134% of pre-pandemic levels.
• San Francisco Bay Ferry had a 21% increase from a year ago. That number is 47% higher than ridership in 2023.
• Golden Gate Ferry ridership increased nearly 16% from last year and 40% from 2023.
• Ridership for Marin Transit jumped 10%, Petaluma Transit was up 7%, and Golden Gate Transit increased 5%.

Larger systems also saw significant ridership growth in the first three months of the year. BART ridership was up almost 6.5% from 2024 while Muni increased by 4%.

On Saturday, May 3, 2025, Marin Transit will join the Canal Alliance for the Nuestro Canal, Nuestro Futuro community fair. Marin Transit staff will host a booth to share information about Marin Transit programs and services, connect with our riders, and collect feedback. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about Marin Transit's plans to develop a bus operations and maintenance facility near the Canal neighborhood.

On April 7, 2025 the Marin Transit Board of Directors approved program changes to the Marin Access suite of programs that will be implemented on July 1, 2025. The complete staff report can be found here. 

The changes will replace the existing voucher-based Catch-A-Ride pilot program with the following: 

1. Intro to Mobility Program for New Riders: A package of offerings designed to expose older adults in Marin County to mobility options, including a one-time monthly pass on Clipper for use on Marin Transit local bus service and a one-time financial incentive of $200 delivered via a mobility wallet to try out new transportation provider(s) of their choice. 

2. MAFA Mobility Wallet: Enhancement of the Marin Access Fare Assistance (MAFA) program to offer an ongoing subsidy of up to $200 per month for use on a range of mobility providers to income qualified individuals via a mobility wallet. 

3. Catch-A-Ride Transitional Program: A transitional program for current Catch-A-Ride pilot program riders who do not have income barriers including a limited duration monthly subsidy via a mobility wallet (up to $200 per month for six months).

Marin Transit, Golden Gate Transit, and SMART have partnered to improve service in the Highway 101 Corridor. Starting January 12th, riders will benefit from improved service and better connections between services offered by each transit agency in Marin County!

Effective Sunday, January 12th, 2025, Marin Transit will have schedule adjustments to allow for improved connections. 

Marin County Transit District is celebrating its 60th Anniversary in December 2024! Marin County residents voted to establish the District in 1964 to serve as the operator of local bus service throughout the County. Marin Transit started out with just one employee and has grown to include 19 full-time staff over the last 60 years. The District is proud to operate 13 local bus routes, 4 supplemental routes, and two rural Stagecoach routes, serve the Muir Woods National Monument, and offer a suite of Mobility programs for older adults and people with disabilities. In FY24, over 3 million trips were taken on Marin Transit’s programs and services, serving destinations in all corners of the County including Novato, Sausalito, Bolinas and Dillon Beach and everywhere in between.
