Youth Pass

Eligible students at participating Marin County schools can apply for a Marin Transit Youth Pass, provided through the student's Youth Clipper Card. With a Youth Pass, registered Marin County students and youth ages 18 and under are able to ride on local routes in Marin (excluding any Golden Gate Transit regional or commute routes such as the 101/120/580 lines) for free!

How to get a Youth Clipper Card

Youth 5-18 years old get 50% off Marin Transit fare with a Youth Clipper card. Students can apply for discount Youth Clipper cards in person at the San Rafael Transit Center Customer Service Center (the fastest method!), online, or by mail. Applicants will need to bring documentation verifying age eligibility. Students do not need to be accompanied by an adult to apply for a Youth Clipper Card.

Acceptable Proof-of-Age Documents:

• Student ID card with date of birth
• Birth certificate or passport
• State-issued ID card or driver’s license
• Matricula consular/consular ID card
• Permanent resident card (“Green Card”)
• Medical benefit card with date of birth
• Military ID or dependent card with date of birth
• SF City ID card

Once you received your Youth Clipper Card, register it on Clippercard.com, to secure your account, passes, and stored value in case it is ever lost or stolen. If you would like to add your physical Youth Clipper Card to your phone's digital Apple or Google wallet, please follow Clipper's instructions. NOTE: Once your physical card is added to your digital wallet the physical card is unusable, please register your Youth Clipper at Clippercard.com before adding it to a digital wallet.

How to get a Youth Pass

Youth Pass is moving to Clipper this Fall! The Youth Pass will transition to a free program for eligible students based on Clipper. Sticker flash passes will not be distributed by schools like in previous years.

How it works:

• Apply for a Youth Clipper Card: Students can apply for discount Youth Clipper cards in person at the San Rafael Transit Center Customer Service Center (The fastest method!), online, or by mail.
• If eligible, sign up for the Marin Transit Youth Pass online, eligibility is based on the Income Eligibility Guidelines for Free and Reduced-price Meals. Reminder that students will need a valid Youth Clipper card to sign up (See: How to Get a Youth Clipper Card). If you apply with a Clipper card that is NOT a Youth Clipper card, the pass cannot be added to your card. You can confirm if your card is a Youth Clipper card by registering it on Clippercard.com
• Receive your pass: Once eligibility is confirmed by your school, Youth Pass will be added to your Youth Clipper card at no cost.
• Start getting discounts automatically! Tap your card (or phone) on the Clipper reader when you board!

Once your application is approved by your school's Youth Pass Coordinator, they will load the Marin Transit Youth Pass directly onto your Youth Clipper card. This will take 2-4 weeks, if there are delays please contact your school's Youth Pass Coordinator. You will not receive a new Youth Clipper card. If you have questions about adding the Youth Pass on your Clipper Youth pass, contact your school coordinator listed in the table below.

If students are not eligible for a free Marin Transit Youth Pass, students can still access discounts and fare-maximums through Youth Clipper on all participating Bay Area transit providers. To apply click on the button above labelled, "Step 1: Apply for Youth Clipper". Youth must have a photo ID and be age 18 or under.

Students that are not eligible for the Marin Transit Youth Pass or do not have a Youth Clipper can still ride Marin Transit for the discounted Youth Fare.
